Krystal Blue book review

I love to read as much as I love to write so I feel such joy when I’m wrapped up in a good book. That is where my heart lies so I became a beta reader for the author Destiny Hawkins. Now this talented woman can spin a great story, and quickly too. As soon as I finish up a book she’s loading up my Kindle app with another! Not that I’m complaining though I really get wrapped up in her characters as she writes so vividly of their lives, loves, and stories.

Amazon Link:

Synopsis:

Krystal Blue is a young college student with the good looks of a Californian blonde beauty. Her life is far from perfect growing up in the foster system and afraid to get close to anyone since her life was struck by tragedy. The story weaves the tale into Krystal navigating college, finding employment, and saving enough money to stop living in her car.
The author Destiny makes you feel sympathetic to Krystal’s plight as a young woman just trying to make her way in the world. Then she throws in a super natural twist and a love triangle as I was reading my head was spinning from the excitement. I I stayed up late late night after night reading this book as the twists and turns piqued my interest and left me wanting more!

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review and like all of Destiny’s books I loved it! I received it in instalments so I eagerly read them wanting more information as the mystery slowly unravelled to who and what Krystal Blue really is. This book was the first that I had read in a LGBTQ genre but the sexual orientation was written in such a way that that the love interests never overshadowed the driving plot line. This book had me on the edge of my seat with how much the story line evolved from Krystal Blue being weak and powerless to discovering an inner strength she never knew she possessed!
The storyline had me at the introduction of Krystal and her brothers relationship growing up in foster care and having no one but each other for comfort and support. Next I was taken on this wild ride that the author Destiny Hawkins is well known for. There were some many twists and turns on a personal and paranormal level I found myself feeling anxious like I was the main character! I’m very excited to continue the next book as this is book one of the Blue Moon series I look forward to more adventures with Krystal Blue.

Rachel’s Day in the Garden book review

This sweet book written by Giselle Shardlow and illustrated by Hazel Quintanilla captured my attention as soon as I saw the request to review it in my inbox. I’m so glad that Alexa Bigwarfe from the blog No Holding Back asked me. My son is recently learning how to do yoga as part of his behavioural aid therapy as well as in his preschool. To say this lovely book was helpful is an understatement. My son has autism combined with Sensory Processing Disorder and with that can come problems with emotional regulation. Being able to copy the poses and read all about the character Rachel in the garden was a wonderful learning tool.

His body and central nervous can go into fight or flight in the sympathetic part of his brain. As soon as he gets into a mindset to do the yoga poses then his para sympathetic part of his brain can take over and rest. The lovely illustrations allow his imagination to take over and be in the garden scenery with Rachel. As well as being comfortable in the yoga postures my son is learning to self regulate and bring all his senses into integration. It allows him to be active, engaged, and doing positive things for his mind, body, and spirit.

What I loved the most about this book was that all the poses were incorporated into the story with using the name and also the demonstration. This book is a valuable tool for children and parents to teach them the value of having a calm body and mind. There is also information on how to use the book as well as the yoga postures broken down individually. This was a joy for me to read and participate in the relaxation and wonderment of enjoying this special time with my son.

Synopsis
Join Rachel as she and her adorable puppy look for signs of spring in the garden. Crawl like a caterpillar, buzz like a bee, and flutter like a butterfly. Discover spring, explore movement, and learn the colors of the rainbow! Age group: Preschoolers ages 3-6.

Lose the Cape-Never will I ever (then I had kids) Book Review edited by Alexa Bigwarfe and Kerry Rivera

It’s been no secret that I received the honour of being published in this book anthology. I’ve been on cloud nine since my essay was excepted by the Lose the Cape team! I was even more excited to purchase an ebook to read on my kindle app before the printed version was available. I’ve bragged about this book shamelessly and promoted it on all corners of my social media. For this I have no apology as my acceptance revitalized my commitment to my writing.
I was feeling dejected as some bigger publications I submitted to denied my stories. In the meantime I was published on some great websites as well and I’m appreciative of that. I was looking for some reach on my social media platform and to build my brand. I was floundering and I didn’t feel like their was a clear path for me. So I decided to write for publications that really mattered me and not chase the “cash cow” that I was. I have no judgement for anyone else to enter those hallowed halls it’s just been too hard on my bruised ego.

I saw that Lose the Cape was accepting submissions so I applied and got accepted! I was very happy and my post made it into the top 5 as most read for the month of October. This was a nice feather in my cap then I saw the call for personal essays for the book anthology to Lose the Cape-Never will I ever. I jumped on this opportunity like a cowboy to a horse and sent in my story.

You can imagine my surprise and elation when I opened up my email and saw my acceptance and congratulations! I hugged my husband tight and I sprang out of bed like I was on fire and broke out into an Irish jig. I’m sure I made my ancestors chuckle as I like to speak in an Irish accent when I’m happy. Tis true it was my Ma’s way of making me laugh, sing, and dance. So who am I not to entertain my family in the same manner?
Without further ado I give you my review of Lose The Cape-Never will I ever.

I received this book as an ARC (Acquired reading copy) for my honest review and I’m privileged to be a contributor to it as well. I was very excited to see my words in print but this book has provided so much more than that! I read each story learning more about myself with each writer’s personal accounts. I laughed, cried, laughed, found my composure again and found myself so absorbed in these heartwarming stories. Lose the Cape-Never Will I Ever is a wonderful book written by such talented people and edited by the amazing team at Lose the Cape and Kat Biggie Press. I feel so blessed to be a part of something so special. Just recently I applied and was accepted as a writer/contributor to Lose The Cape. I love being on such a creative and talented team that reside there. I’m learning more about myself as a writer and as a person with each story I read there. I’m affirming myself as the writer I always dreamed I would be and living for my Mom’s vision for me. Please come check out the website and follow along on social media as well. Science of Parenthood book review

Have you ever had a book come into your life right when you needed it the most? I have a handful of times it’s like the right book was searching for me as I was it. This marvellous book I’m referring to is the Science of Parenthood written by Norine Dworkin and illustrated by Jessica Ziegler.
I signed up to be part of their #Boogiewipes Science of Parenthood blog tour and I’m also proud to be a #Boogieblogger. I received this book as an ARC (acquired reading copy) for my honest review. It arrived in my mailbox on Christmas Eve and I was tickled pink to see it there. I eagerly dived into it getting lost in the pages while my cookies baked and I left my kitchen a disaster.

Covered in flour and cinnamon is how I spend most of my December with Christmas baking so that day  was no different. My son had been sick nineteen days out of the month so I was grateful for my reading break! I began to giggle as I read the scientific explanations of what Norine had explained in relation to parenting.

To say I liked this book is an understatement I absolutely loved it! The information backed up with scientific data as well as the tongue and cheek way it was presented made me giggle late into the night under my covers hoping I wouldn’t wake my sleeping household! I really related to to the chapter on Darwin Parents: Adapt or Die! As I believe this is what parenthood is all about. Constantly adapting to sleeping, feeding, bathing yourself and your children. Then just when you figure it out and get cocky and say out loud “I got this” your kids will change up the game and you’re back at square one!

My favourite paragraph in the chapter is as follows:

“Whoever coined the phrase “change is good” clearly never woke up every two hours to feed a newborn. Or paced 26.2 miles round the living room, trying to soothe a screaming infant. Or went ten days without showering because she was too exhausted to care. Or notice.”

It’s like the heavens opened up and the clouds parted and the angel chorus sang Hallejuah to me when I read that, because this is my life! My kids were never sleepers, not the babies that you bring home from the hospital and are sleeping by one month. No they never got that memo and I’m still trying to fax it to my son’s bedside at 4.5 years old!

The chapter on potty training left me in stitches as we went through it last year. He was a little late with all of the steps with having some special needs. Now it’s a big production in the bathroom I cringe when I hear those words “come see what I did Mommy, it’s right there!” Then the road trips for hockey I hear “stop the truck I have to pee.” But you just went before we left the house.” Which means nothing to a preschooler.  I soon find out it’s much more fun to pee on Daddy’s tires than a toilet!

Reading this graph had me hysterics as we go through this every time we go to grocery store or are stuck in a lineup shopping. I ask all the questions as described and get a no, I’m fine, let’s go, then it’s holding his bottom screaming “I got to go now!” It makes running errands an Olympic event as I pick up my child and run through the aisles to find the nearest bathroom.

This particular case above wonderfully illustrated by Jessica described my Christmas. I love to build things Legos, blocks, puzzles you name it I want to build it. I was so excited to give my oldest son a box of Connext so we could build some awesome structures with it. He was kind enough when he opened it to say “thanks Mom that’s cool” but I seen his eyes light up when guitar hero was the next gift unwrapped. I just can’t compete with rock and roll so if you can’t beat them join them.

This book is a must have for every expectant parent it will be my token baby shower gift from now on. It’s leading the charts in the categories of Parenting, Motherhood, and Funny books and is available on Amazon. I would recommend Science of Parenthood to anyone that’s done daycare it will keep you laughing. You’ll be nodding your head in agreement so much like me you’ll think you’re one of those bobble head dolls! Enjoy then you can say you read a book like this famous Doctor who’s definitely one of my favourites.

“The perfect field manual for all the parents out there who can do nothing else with their day but laugh.”

Book review for How to Reach Your Writing Goals Like a Pro-by Author M.C. Simon

I love books, reading, collecting, and sharing stories about them. I thought I would challenge myself and start writing one. I signed up with the masses for Nanowrimo (also known as National November Writing Month). I was so excited and started out writing out my large word count each day. I was also busy with my theatre schedule and then there was a death in my family.
The loss sent me into a tailspin as death doesn’t always bring out the best in family’s. My writing project was put on hold as I made the phone calls to spread the sad news.I continued throwing myself into busyness so that I didn’t have to feel the pain. My writing of my novel came to a stand still and I wrote other words of poetry and how to deal with my grief. I was very fortunate to come across M.C.Simon earlier when I was lucky enough to win one of her books Feng Shui for writers.

Amazon Buy Link-Available in both paperback and Kindle versions

I picked up my kindle app and started it reading again to give me inspiration than I realized after checking my email she had a new book out I signed up to beta read for. So I got busy and started reading. This book was the answer to my prayers to help me focus on my novel again. M.C. Simon offers clear, concise, steps to reach your self publishing goals.

I was so excited to read and absorb all the information presented before me. She covers everything from setting yourself up as a writer with website, social media links, and the tips on how to use Amazon Create Space. The most amazing thing that M.C. writes about is understanding how Universal energy works. You put the best out to there in the world and the best will come back to you. There’s nothing more special than reading something where you feel the author wrote it specifically for you. This is how I feel with everything M.C. writes, that it’s just for me.

Genre: Non-fiction

I know she reaches more than just me by the number one best selling status that she has on Amazon. Her system works and she’s living proof of it as her background is in engineering and project management. I loved reading about her story of how her journey came to be. She worked in her chosen career field for years and felt her calling. She knew nothing about writing a book or being published. She’s a wise woman and set out to do her research. What she found gave her the purpose she needed to be a writer. With this knowledge, tenacity, and love of her dream and Fengshui for Writers was born.

This book came into my life the day I signed up for a publishing workshop. I was nervous that I had made a big mistake and I was in over my head. I was trying to convince myself to cancel my accepted invitation then I came across an email saying open me. I did and it was the lovely author informing of my win in a book release party I had attended.

I immediately replied to her request to get the book and thanked her for rescuing me from my self doubt. We all have those moments in life when negative tapes play in our heads of “you’re not good enough.” It’s a sad state of affairs when we just give into those naysayers and believe them and live with the heartache and eventual heartbreak of not pursuing our dreams.

I’m determined not to let that happen to me, so with M.C.’s support, and knowledge, I break free from these chains of doubt, shaken self esteem, and negative cycle and look out literary world I’m a force to be read and acknowledged.  Thanks to this amazing and talented author who taught me to believe in myself again. I’m so grateful that divine intervention led me to M.C. and my dreams of being author will come true.

Prescription for ratings book review

I’ve read a book I can’t stop thinking about it.  It reminded me of the premise of Running Man, a science fiction novel by Stephen King (but was released under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman in May 1982)  and then made into a movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger five years later.  It’s by a new author I have found and started beta reading for. It’s a continuation of the prequel Dystopian Nation City-of State-How to kill Your Senator that sets up the back story for the characters and the dystopian society they live in. I suggest you read this novel first to get to know these people and the world they’re surviving in. I really enjoyed the plot twists and turns and how easy it was to get into these characters heads in this dark, surreal thriller.
Dystopian Nation: Prescription for Ratings by Kaisy Wilkerson-Mills and James Courtney is the Big Brother TV show meets the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. The story starts out with introducing us to Dr. Tyler Wright who works at the National Hospital on Layer 7. We soon learn of Tyler’s career ambitions and how torn he is to aspire to them. The committee that he’s now part of begins to introduce him City States new contestants of the TV reality show. Chelle, Harvey, Faye, and Kenneth. They all sit in this glass house eating dinner while population of City State watches eagerly to see what will transpire.

Chelle– wife of Harvey has been living a wonderful life in D Class layer 7. Things take a turn for the worst and she finds herself a contestant in the reality show.

Harvey– husband of Chelle, has a comfortable existence working at the air car plant. He loves his wife but is a bit complacent with his career direction. Which then leads him to being a contestant along with Chelle.

Faye-Nineteen year old sister of Kenneth who wants a better chance at life than living in the slums of layer 6. She leaves behind her family and ends up on City States new reality series.

Kenneth-younger brother of Faye desperate to stop the fighting and physical abuse his sister suffers from their Mother; the verbal abuse and co-dependency he has inflicted on him daily. He finds himself following in his sisters footsteps of being a reality tv show contestant.

What follows next you have to read to believe! As the scene changes and it’s every dog for themselves. The writing is superb as Kaisy and James make you really care about these characters and the lives that they’re living. The ebook is now available on Amazon today. Please give it a read and a review and support new authors and their talents. Thank you. 😘

The Story of Lansing Lotte book review

This is a book review that almost never was written. I was having WordPress app issues and my posts were disappearing, not publishing, saving, or allowed to post pictures. I’m so relieved  that everything is now working properly after deleting and reloading the app and I can share my review with you today.

Book Review

This is a continuation from the first book The Legend of Arturo King that leaves the reader with a cliffhanger at the end. The Story of Lansing Lotte introduces us more to Lansing, the sexy guitar player in the rock band the Nights. An event happens and his best friend and lead singer Arturo King has gone missing. Leaving behind his devastated fiancée Guenivere Degrance. It’s up to the authorities and the members of the band to piece together what happened. Lansing’s heart belongs to Guenivere and if he can’t have her he’ll find someone beautiful to warm his bed. Enter the characters Elaine Corbin and Layne Alcolat to spice things up and a some drama to Lansing’s life.  I enjoyed reading this sequel in the Legendary Rockstar series. L.B. Dunbar weaves an intriguing plot with these characters in a modern day King Arthur’s court. I loved the dialogue present in this book, told from Lansing’s point of view. His character became fascinating to me the more I read. As I was prepared to not like him as he’s the “bad boy” rock and roller. I suggest the reader first read The Legend of Arturo King to get an idea of the depth of the characters and how they will play out in the sequel. There is mature adult sexual content and language so I would give this book an 18 + rating. There’s so many twist and turns so buckle up and enjoy the ride! Here’s a teaser to introduce you to Lansing and one of his conquests.

Book Excerpt

“Because I know you love her and that must hurt.”

“I…I don’t know if I’m capable of love, Lila. All I seem to do is destroy women, and myself.” She reached a shaky hand for me and pushed my longish bangs back from my forehead. It was surprisingly comforting.

“I don’t believe that she said.” “I just think you just have difficulty in choosing a safe one.”

Synopsis:(told from Lansing Lotte’s point of view)

*WARNING:* Adult content ahead.

I get it. I’ve heard the jokes. My name sounds like some medieval character who was a hero. Hell, my best friend’s named Arturo King. Ring any medieval bells? But this is my story and I’m no hero. I also get the jokes. Lancelot is a play on the words lance and lot, and a lance refers to a sword, which is a euphemism for dick. What does a man do with his dick? He fucks. A lot. So if my name is Lansing Lotte, I must be “fucking lot.” Get it? Fucking a lot? Which I’m not saying I don’t, that’s not the point. Another reference to something sexual. Get my point? Huh, I made a punny. But again this is my story, and I haven’t done anything funny. In fact, I’ve killed three women, and only one of them I loved. Yeah, that’s right? Not laughing now. It’s not funny. And I’m definitely no fucking hero.

About The Author

L.B. Dunbar loves to read to the point it might be classified as an addiction. The past few years especially she has relished the many fabulous YA authors, the new genre of New Adult, traditional romances, and historical romances. A romantic at heart, she’s been accused of having an overactive imagination, as if that was a bad thing. Author of the Sensations Collection, Sound Advice, Taste Test, Fragrance Free, Touch Screen, and the upcoming Sight Words, she is also author of the Legendary Rock Star series, beginning with The Legend of Arturo King. She grew up in Michigan, but has lived in Chicago for longer, calling it home with her husband and four children.

P.T.Macais’ Book series Sugar’s Fate and Seizing Fate Review

Today I’m going to be reviewing the book Sugar’s Fate by P.T. Macais. I’ve had the pleasure of working with her before on her Spring Blog Tour hop Love is in the Air. So I was thrilled to sign up to get to actually read her book and let you know what I think.

Review of Sugar’s Fate

If you haven’t read P.T.’s books before I will suggest you buckle up for a fast and wild ride. In the paranormal genre that I love to read she sets the story with us meeting the main characters Artemis Evans and Easton Macenzie. She can’t explain why she’s been having these strange and erotic dreams since she hit puberty. Little does she know that Easton is plagued by the same dream. It’s their mystery that P.T. let’s the reader start to unravel. And when you do wow, what a hot thrill ride awaits! Artemis meets her mate in Easton and their world is turned upside with their sexual intensity and the inner wolf growling inside. I love P.T. Macais’ use of descriptive language in her writing. I really felt like I was in the main characters heads. Feeling their intense feeling and wrapped up in their emotions of love, lust, and gratitude after having finding their mate at last. I really enjoyed this book. It moves fast, and you have to catch your breath. Easton’s character doesn’t mess around with playing the dating game. He’s a wolf and his primal nature is at the forefront of his mind, and he goes after what he wants like a true Alpha male. Due to the highly sexual nature of this amazing, descriptive, book it’s rated for an 18 + mature audience.

Seizing Fate
The story picks up where we left Artemis and Easton’s love affair and her discovery that she’s a hybrid part human, and part wolf. As the book left off with Artemis fighting for her life Easton is intent on protecting his beloved mate and their cub. This brings the Mackenzie family together to meet the Evans family. And our two new characters Grant (Easton’s cousin) and Kymberly (Artemis cousin). The scene is set for the family’s to join in the celebration of Easton and Artemis’ engagement. As soon as Grant and Kymberly meet they are made aware of their wolf mate attraction. He resists because of their age difference but there’s no denying the wolves need to bond with his mate. Soon your swept up in their lusty love affair and taken on an exciting ride of love, power, sex, and intrigue. Like in the previous book Sugar’s Fate the content is of a highly sexual nature and intended for an 18 + mature rating. I loved getting to know these characters and reading the paranormal genre is my first love. Wolves, mates, love, and lust and passion are wrapped up in this series P.T. Macais rocks and knocks it out the park with this exciting book series!

The Tapped book Review and Blog Tour

I’ve been enjoying being a beta reader the last  while. This month I was able to read a book series from Stacey Grice the author of Totaled and Tapped. In the first book we’re introduced to the characters Drew and Bree. He’s an up and coming UFC fighter and he begins  training at her family’s gym and thus begins their love story. Admist tragedies and triumphs they manage to make it through as a couple together. After following their story and the trouble that befalls the main characters, I needed to read the sequel ASAP! I fell in love with the star crossed lovers and had to see what happens to them. Can they survive Drew’s past demons, will their love really heal his mind, body, and soul? Read on and find out in the next book in the series.

Totaled
We begin the story with Bree and Drew still in love and maintaining their relationship despite her Father’s opposing stance on it. Drew continues training at the gym and is trying to move up the ranks of the Mixed Martial Arts world. Then one fateful night it all changes and Drew and Bree’s love story is tested to its core! I loved getting to know these characters and I was cheering for them with every positive experience, and supporting them with each negative one. I loved all the twists and turns in their journey. Just went I thought I had the story figured out there was another plot twist. Stacey Grimes weaves an exciting story line and really made me want to root for the under dog, and believe that love does conquer all.

When a once-in-a-lifetime career opportunity presents itself with impeccably poor timing, Drew has some tough decisions ahead.

Can he heal the wounds his past has created and quiet the demons that haunt him? Can he repair the damage done with his love or will he give up?

Discover if it’s all too much and Drew ends up…

Tapped.

Author’s Note: Tapped is a continuation of Totaled, the first book in the Totaled series. It is highly recommended to read these books in sequential order. Due to mature content, profane language, and sexual situations, this book is recommended for ages 18 and up.

I appreciate honesty but not cruelty, a wicked sense of humor, and a good cup of coffee, blond with enough creamer to coat my tongue yellow.Being an astute people watcher and having an extremely judgmental mind gives me constant inspiration for my stories. But my characters, like many authors, are conceived from actual people in my life. A hodgepodge of personality traits, real world instances, and conversations that I have directly taken part in are the foundation for my fictional world.

EXCERPT:

Something told me to walk around to the back and my legs took me. I followed the skinny path within the dunes and sea oats on the side of his house until he came into view. Standing with his back to me, he watched the water as the sun rose higher and higher above the horizon, the colors beautifully framing his silhouette. He turned his head ever so slightly, I guess sensing that I was there, and then turned around completely.

I froze.

I was unable to take another step for a few seconds as we stared at each other. His posture relaxed, relieved to see me before him, and he advanced toward me. I walked forward, my stomach in knots of nervousness, and he matched me step for step until we were mere feet apart. The salty sea breeze blew violently around us both, coming off of the crashing waves and onto our skin. The second we entered each other’s space, my world went silent. I didn’t hear the water or smell the ocean. I didn’t feel the wind on my face or the sand under my feet. I was only in tune to him.

He swallowed hard, his eyes sharp and assessing, darting around my face as he took me in. They roamed and finally settled on my cheek just underneath my left eye; his shoulders fell as he exhaled. His right arm reached for me, stopping midway and then slowly continuing up, his eyes asking for permission. I lowered my chin and leaned into him as his fingertips grazed over my skin, tracing the scar he had given me. My eyes closed at the intensity of the moment.

He moved a few inches closer and cradled my jaw in his hand, urging me to open up and look at him—to really see him. I did and his eyes brimmed with tenderness and compassion. I looked into them, trying to memorize every shade of green, every fleck of gold, not knowing what the future held. I just knew that if I was never able to lay eyes on him again, this was the image that I wanted to remember. My gentle and loving Drew, normally stuck inside a giant, rough exterior, was now exploding out, his shrapnel penetrating my soul.
